Bouquet of Sunshine, 10 x 8 in. acrylics on canvas
Hey Art Lovers! I'm happy to share some great news with you. I was invited to participate in "Out There," an exhibition of abstract art currently on display at SouthWind Art Gallery in Topeka, Kansas.
After posting "Bouquet of Sunshine" on Instagram back in July, Abby, the gallerist at SouthWind, reached out to me asking if I'd like to include the piece in her exhibit. Of course, I said "YES!"
As a long shot, I sent Abby images of 2 other paintings I had created in this series, and she said "Send 'em in!" So I am delighted to have the 3 pieces shown here in the show.
See the other paintings in 'Out There' on the SouthWind Gallery website... or if you're in Topeka, go visit in person! SouthWind is at 3074 SW 29th St, Topeka, KS 66614. The show runs to September 28th.
The Light Comes. 10 x 8 in., acrylics on canvas.
Art-making is a continual experiment for me.
Because my paints are fluid and moving while they’re wet, all kinds of possibilities open up!
One of the tools I use frequently to move paint around my canvas is a piece of rubber tubing that I blow air through. I had never tried using a more powerful tool, i.e. a blow dryer, to really move paint around - I figured it would be too difficult to control.
But after watching YouTube videos of other fluid acrylic artists using a blow dryer, I jumped in! Yes, I have to kiss a lot of control bye-bye, but the dryer adds a whole new dynamic to what I can do with my paintings, infusing them with energy and movement.
These 3 are among my first successful pieces (several others are in the do-over pile!). They are a combination of blown air, palette knife and paintbrush. This palette of blue/turquoise/gold/copper has become my favorite!
