What a fortnight it has been! A roller coaster of emotions with the uncertainty of where Hurricane Florence was going to go… would she get stronger or weaker? She ended up being quite kind to our area (near Raleigh) - we’re most thankful that we got no flooding, no prolonged power outage. But she wreaked havoc on some coastal areas with storm surge, and caused catastrophic flooding near rivers with her relentless rain. Our hearts go out to those who will be recovering for a long time to come.
I’d been hunting around for a title for the painting shown above - now I know it has got to be Florence!
The studio hasn’t seen me much in the past several weeks, but here is some of my most recent work.
Marching to my Own Drum isn’t quite like my other poured fluid paintings on canvas. It is brush-painted on watercolor paper, which creates a different set of textures that I like just as much as the fluid acrylics on canvas.
This piece is mounted on stretched canvas that I painted black. The whole thing is varnished, so it can be hung without a frame - a plus for weight, cost and non-breakability!
Now the same color palette, similar type of composition, but this time, many layers of fluid acrylics on canvas. A totally different look for my Enchanted Garden series. Each piece is 20x10 in. on deep canvas. Click the images for a closer look!
Upcoming Show - Atalaya Festival
Each year I look forward to the Atalaya Festival in Murrell’s Inlet, SC. Not only because it’s a good show, but also because it takes place in Huntington Beach State Park. The park sits right on the beach - hello beachwalk after the show closes each evening! The surrounding marshes also attract hundreds of waterfowl, which are an awesome nature treat to behold at feeding time in the early morning.
Hurricane Florence hit the area pretty hard and there has been flooding, but the park apparently fared quite well and the rangers have deemed it safe for the show to go on. Whew!
Friday Sept. 28, 12 - 6
Saturday Sept. 29, 10 - 6
Sunday Sept. 30, 10 - 5
WHERE: Atalaya Castle, Huntington Beach State Park, Murrell’s Inlet SC.
$10 Admission gets you into the park and the show.
