Encouraged by the success of my last nuno felt scarf, I decided to get a little more adventurous in this next nuno project! Starting again with a white chiffon scarf, I laid out my wool roving in loose flower shapes, in various shades of pink and purple. I let the roving extend past the hems of the scarf to make things more interesting.
And here's the result, which I'm very pleased with. The pink roving bled quite a lot, turning the white scarf a pretty shade of pale pink. Now I'm sure bleeding wool is not a good thing, but it actually worked to advantage in this design! However I probably won't buy wool from this supplier again.
This detail shot shows the lovely textures created by different fibers shrinking at different rates. I had laid strands of silk fibers over the wool and they created wavy accent lines you see. Love it!
ARTSPLOSURE IS THIS WEEKEND!
Artsplosure is this weekend, on May 17 - 18 in downtown Raleigh, NC. The art show is set around Moore Square. I'll be in booth # 102, on Blount St. near the intersection with Hargett St.
While the art is on the streets around the square, the square itself will be buzzing with activity - 3 entertainment stages, including one devoted to kids entertainment, in a special Kidsplosure area. There are acrobats, sand sculptors and many interactive crafts for kids and adults. It's a great family event!
Hours for the Art Market are: Saturday 11 - 7; Sunday 10 - 5:30
Hope to see you there!
