Last Friday I was invited to give a 2-hr workshop at Credit Suisse - a financial services company in my area - as part of their International Women's Day activities. We decided to paint silk sun catchers with Dye-na-Flow silk paints. The sun catchers start off as a piece of white silk stretched over a metal hoop. It's a great project for a short class, since the paints don't necessarily have to be heat set and the finished pieces are ready to display on an easel or hang with a piece of fishing wire.
I provided all the supplies, including simple line drawings for students to use if they didn't want to use their own. Before painting their sun catchers, they practiced on a piece of scrap silk stretched on an embroidery hoop (first 3 photos).
Here's the whole group with their finished sun catchers. Fish were a popular theme!
These were only first time silk painters... they did a wonderful job, don't you think?
