Side by side now on my frame are the beginnings of 2 small paintings that will be close-ups of flowers but with a twist - instead of painting the flowers as you would see them in nature, I'm going wild with the colors and building them up from abstract color gradients. I want them to sort of look like abstracts out of which something flower-like seems to grow. I'm using one of my favorite silk painting techniques - batik. Here are the first few layers of dye and wax. Even though I do batik quite a lot, I always find it fascinating to watch the subject slowly emerge from an amorphous background.
I think I have just a couple of layers left to do... I think my crazy flowers are growing nicely... I know they don't look like anything yet but you'll see!
Please join me in the next post which will reveal the mature 'flowers'!
