It's almost time for my solo exhibition in Barbados! The Magic of Silk opens on December 9th and runs until January 5th. This will be my 3rd show at the Gallery of Caribbean Art in Speightstown, the main town on the northwest coast of the island. I'll be showing framed silk paintings, scarves and shawls. It has been a tremendous amount of work getting ready for this show since everything had to be boxed up and shipped there. It didn't help that I was unaware that the international shipper I usually use had closed its Raleigh office - the one in my area. Ron and I only found that out when we took my boxes there the day we thought they were going to be shipped out. Plan B, which involved going to an intermediate handler who would drive the stuff to Charlotte (3 hrs away) to the shipper's new offices, set me back a whole week, since the cargo plane to Barbados leaves only once a week.
So now things are going to be cut very close. My boxes arrived in Barbados yesterday but could take several days to get out of customs since this is a holiday weekend, starting with Independence celebrations on Friday.
I get there next Tuesday and am crossing fingers and toes very tightly that customs will have been cleared by then. Although the show doesn't open until December 9th, I need time to do framing and other pre-show prep.
This the front and back of the postcard invitation, designed by me and mailed out by the gallery.
Wish me luck!
