Last Saturday I had a group of 5 budding silk painters in my studio for a 1-day beginners workshop.
In the morning we started with a 'play' piece of silk. After discussing materials and giving a demo of the basic technique, I supplied a simple line drawing of a flower for them to trace onto the silk. The only directive was "Have fun!" They all got down to work experimenting with the dyes, seeing how they mixed and how they moved on the silk.
It's so interesting how everyone starts out with an identical drawing but the resulting creations are so different from each other. Here are the finished play pieces. Nice, huh?
After lunch it was time to put all the earlier discoveries into practice by moving on to the 'real deal', a 22" square hemmed scarf.
And the finished works of art...

All did a great job and most importantly, learned something new and fun!
Thanks for joining the class today...
