Three examples of another shibori technique called 'fold and clamp'. Here I folded the scarf in layers and clamped on various shapes before painting (bottom photo). At first glance each repeat of the design looks the same, but if you look closely you'll see that each repeat is slightly different because of the intentionally haphazard way that I apply the dyes. And although it's the dyed parts that jump out at you, it's interesting to focus on the patterns created by the negative space (squinting helps).
This was the inauspicious beginning of the scarf on the right. Looks a lot like me on a bad hair day =;-/
