Don Michael Jr.
Since I was revamping my blog and building a new website, I decided it was also time that I had a logo. I thought I'd share it's evolution with you. I used my good buddy photoshop and found a font I liked for my name. For the tagline, I wanted to put into a few words the essence of silk painting - what it represented to me. Dancing is just what dyes seem to do on the silk and I made the text wavy to denote movement. The shape is part of one of my paintings that I cropped with photoshop's cookie cutter tool, followed by re-sizing of the shape to get it where I wanted. Considering that graphics is not my strength, I was quite pleased with this draft -
When I asked for feedback, my cyber-blogger-artist friend Don Michael Jr. suggested that the tag line wasn't really fitting well and the word 'silk' looked like it was falling off the logo. Now I know this guy knows what he's talking about since he's an award winning graphic artist with an EMMY under his belt. Don kindly offered to do some tweaks to improve the look. Before sending my file to Don, I played around with it a bit more - I flipped the leaf and liked that much better since the shape now seems to 'hold' the words much better -
Don then put a drop shadow under the letters of my name so they'd stand out more, integrated the tagline with the leaf and gave it a matching color gradient. Mah-velous! Et voilà - my new logo, that I'm very happy with (that is until I get the itch to get designing again)!
Thank you Don, for putting the icing on the cake for me! Don now works primarily in acrylics. He wields a wicked palette knife and specializes in painting face masks - you've never seen so many variations on a subject until you've seen Don's work. Please visit his blog to see his latest!
