The weather has been so hot and dry for the past several weeks and everyone's yard is looking rather brown and sad. It's so disappointing after the lush spring that we had. Higher than usual snowfall for our area resulted in a wild bursting forth of new life. Looking back through my spring photos, I thought my lovely April azaleas would be good inspiration for the next painting.
It won't be a literal translation, as you can guess from the beginnings shown here! I did the first layer a bit different than usual - I usually start with long, sweeping strokes. This time, for no particular reason and without thinking, I just started doing dabs of color and before I knew it the whole piece of silk was covered in dabs! It looks a little strange, and not what I had intended, but I've decided to leave it as is. With wax to preserve some areas and more dye, I've started to sculpt some petal shapes.
