I don't know why that nursery rhyme just popped into my head when thinking of a title for this post.... do you remember it? Well I'm back in the US now after a most enjoyable trip to Trinidad for Carnival. I hadn't been there in several years, and it was great to see family and friends that Ron and I hadn't seen in a long time. We also passed through Barbados, where Ron's family and also some of mine live, so we hit many birds with one stone.
Just before my trip I had a mad scramble to mount paintings and mat prints to take with me (for a gallery in Barbados), and left my studio in utter disaster. So while I sort out my studio and my head, I thought I'd show you a few older paintings. I haven't done underwater scenes for a while, but these are 3 of my favorites, especially the first one because I totally made up the fish! They seem to be a cross between goldfish and sargeant majors with really cold lips... I love 'em!
Below are some pix from the Parade of the Bands on Carnival Tuesday. If you'd like to see the whole album, go here. We didn't "play mas" in costume this year, just grooved from the sidelines, but maybe next year.... We'd have to into some serious training, since you are on the street from 8 am till after dark, dancing along an approx 5 mile route. Doesn't seem like a long distance, but there are lots of bands, some with up to 5000 masqueraders!
