Bursting Buds

‘Bursting Buds’, 14 x 68 in (35 x 170 cm).

This lightweight silk habotai scarf was created with a wrap shibori technique. The scarf is folded and wrapped around a pole and different colors of dye painted on. The unique design is only revealed when the scarf is unwrapped and can never be repeated. The pattern in this scarf one of diagonal stripes and is reminiscent of tall stalks of flowers.

The colors I used in this piece are purple, magenta, and turquoise on a pale blue background. Mixtures of all these colors can be seen throughout the scarf as the dyes migrated along the folds of fabric.
