There's usually nothing in my head when I start on a needle felt piece, other than the color scheme. I start laying down fibers in dimensional shapes on my base and things just go from there. All I pay attention to is how colors and textures are going together. Fishy on a Dishy started and ended this way. It didn't look like anything until I turned it at one particular angle, and voilà... there was the beginnings of a fish! The cheesecloth that I had covered my base with just happened to look like fins and a tail. (I wish I had taken a photo of it at this stage). A bit more shaping of the cheesecloth and addition of a black pupil sealed the deal.

I thought Fishy could use a friend, so for my next piece I intentionally gave my base a fish shape to build on.
