After flitting around from place to place, one of my favorite fairies has found a permanent home! After Midnight was sold a few days ago and my fairy will get to blow her magic dust in her new home in Winston-Salem, NC. The background of After Midnight is a piece of silk that I had painted years ago as part of a collection I had done for swimsuit fabric designer. I always thought it looked like water, and thought I should do something with it, but that something never came to me. I kept pulling it off my 'Future Projects' shelf and putting it back again.
But the last time I pulled it out, it said to me, "Night sky." Bingo! That was it. From there, the moon was an obvious addition, and if you have a crescent moon you may as well have a fairy sitting on it, blowing fairy dust into stars! The moon and fairy are pieces of appliquéd silk, and I hand quilted and beaded the background.
I hope she'll be happy in her new home!
[break] Meanwhile I have been busy painting new scarves to take to Festifall this Sunday, October 6th. Technically it's fall, but it sure has felt like summer this week and our leaves haven't started turning yet in N. Carolina. Still, my new scarves are in fall colors... here's a leafy one...
Don't forget - if you're in Chapel Hill this Sunday, come see me in booth B7 on Franklin St! Festifall runs from 12 - 6 pm.
