Another of my new ventures for 2013 is offering to give silk painting demonstrations to senior communities as part of their entertainment activities. My first one was at Rex Rehab and Nursing Care in Raleigh. I gave a 1-hour demo, painting freehand design on a small scarf.
Here's my audience. Some did nod off, but overall they seemed to enjoy watching the design take shape, especially as I used salt in strategic places to create textures. It's always fascinating to see how your initial design changes after the salt has worked its magic!
At the end, we had a prize drawing and the winner got the scarf that I painted.
I'm doing this through the Senior Play List. a website where artists/performers/entertainers can offer activities to senior communities for a modest fee. Activities directors can browse this directory and contact you. If you're interested in sharing your talents in this way yourself, check out Senior Play List and sign up!
