Cary Arts Center Grand Opening This Weekend

In these times of cuts to all kinds of funding for the arts, it's heartening to have a large new arts center opening up in Cary NC, where I live. The  Cary Arts Center is a repurposed elementary school and will cater to visual and performing arts, and arts education. It has a theater, rehearsal rooms, studios and classrooms.
The grand opening is this weekend and I'm excited to have the chance to share silk painting at the event. I'll be giving a demo from 12:30 - 2 pm, along with other artists demonstrating various other media.

The CAC will also be the permanent home of the Concert Singers of Cary, which I'm a part of. We've been rehearsing at a community center, but if we had to change rehearsal days or add an extra rehearsal, we were left having to hunt for temporary space. There have been a couple of occasions when I've forgotten that we had changed venues and turned up at the usual place, only to find no chorus! Then having to call somebody for a reminder and scramble over to right place. Not good! It will be wonderful not to have to worry about that any more.

The Concert Singers' Chamber Choir, along with members of the Cary Ballet Conservatory, will be giving a free performance of James Whitbourn's Luminosity at 1 pm on Saturday in CAC's new theatre. I've seen this before and it's really worth seeing!

So if you're in the Cary area, come check out our new Arts Center on Saturday!
