More layering, starting at the lower left corner and moving out. After my first wash there had been a neat textured area in the upper right that I wanted to preserve with wax. I thought I would make it into a butterfly, but while painting the wax on, it magically morphed into some sort of fairy bug-being who (I swear) told me his name was Walter! You can see the beginnings of Walter in the 2nd photo, after I've done more background painting around him.
I'm mostly finished painting now, just a few areas to touch up. At this point the whole piece is covered in wax, which makes it look several shades darker than it really is. The next step is to crack the wax and overdye the cracks.
